Sedation Information

Preparations for MRI Performed with sedation

Patients 3-6 months

  • No breast milk 4 hours prior to sedation.
  • No formula 6 hours prior to sedation.
  • If your child has a fever or acute cold for more than 7 days, or a significant medical condition, please call anesthesia @ (718) 470-7390

Patients 6 months and older

  • No milk (incl. formula ) or
  • solids 8 hours prior to sedation.
  • If your child has a fever or acute cold for more than 7 days, or a significant medical condition, please call anesthesia @ (718) 470-7390
  • If your child will be in school on the day of diagnostic testing, please be sure to inform the school of fasting requirements.

All patients

  • May have clear liquids up to two hours prior to sedation. Clear liquids including breast milk, water, Gatorade, apple juice, clear tea.
  • It is recommended that all patients wear a loose fitting short sleeve shirt.
  • Please arrive 30 minutes before your appointment time. For example, if your appointment is at 1pm, your arrival should be at 12:30pm.

Medication

  • Insulin dependent diabetic patients must hold off on their morning medication until after the procedure. All other patients may take their morning medications with a sip of water. Asthmatic patients should bring their inhalers with them to use prior to the procedure

 

The anesthesia office will contact you the day before your appointment to review the patient’s history and fasting instructions.
